Bye Bye Ads

“Bye Bye Ads” is a viral copy-and-paste hoax text that circulates on Facebook. It falsely claims that pasting a specific block of text onto your profile will “upgrade the system,” bypass Meta’s algorithms, eliminate advertisements, and force the news feed to show more posts from your friends. The Reality of the Post

It does not work: Pasting a text status cannot alter the underlying code, user agreements, or ad delivery algorithms of Facebook.

System upgrades: Only Meta engineers can upgrade the platform’s system; a user text post has zero technical execution power.

The “Yessssss” keyword trap: Scammers often search public Facebook posts for unique keywords used in these hoaxes (like “Yessssss” with multiple s’s). This allows them to easily identify and target users who may be highly trusting or vulnerable to phishing, profile cloning, and other malicious scams. The Anatomy of the Hoax Text The viral text typically looks like this:

“Bye Bye ads!!!! Yessssss it works!!! Omg it worked !!! Update!!!! To regain friends in your news feed and get rid of ads – Hold your finger anywhere in this post and click ′copy’. Go to your page where it says ‘What’s on your mind? ’ Tap your finger anywhere in the blank field. Click paste. This upgrades the system. Hello new and old friends!” Real Ways to Control Your Ad Feed

If you actually want to limit ads or change who you see on your feed, use Facebook’s legitimate, built-in features instead:

Hide individual ads: Click the three dots (…) on the top right of any sponsored post and select Hide ad or Report ad.

Adjust your ad preferences: Navigate to your account Settings & Privacy, click Ad Preferences, and manually block specific ad topics or advertisers.

Manage your Feed Favorites: Add up to 30 friends or pages to your Favorites list in your Feed settings to force their posts to appear higher up in your timeline.

Ad-free subscription: If you reside in certain regions (such as the EU), Meta offers a legitimate paid monthly subscription service to completely remove ads from Facebook and Instagram.
